Entanglements brings together the work of these two artists who approach natural form through sculpture and drawing. Toole’s sculptural work is at once materially tough, yet delicate and thoughtful. Sykes’ meticulous drawings are meditative, but bold and physically assertive. 
Both artists share concerns with the overlooked or unseen details in the environment, exploring transitory spaces, liminal states and the expression of life as a dynamic force. Toole’s sculptures reference line; Sykes’ drawings begin to take on sculptural form. Finely detailed works on paper become physically intensive, and robust sculptures extend through space creating a delicate expression of tension and balance. In conversation, the artists present us with an entirely new landscape – one that recontextualizes our own.
