In 2008 when we introduced a small foundry program for the Sculpture Minor at the Savannah campus of the Savannah College of Art and Design. Students, faculty, and staff worked together to build a program for ceramic shell waste mold processes. During the term we sculpted objects directly in wax and then sprued them in preparation for the ceramic shell application. For one weekend in the term, we would travel to the SCAD Atlanta campus to work with the faculty, staff, and students in the Sculpture Major to cast both bronze and iron. This series of Foundry Trophies were created as an award for the best artwork created by a student. The trophy was the result of various demonstrations for each process (wax, shell molding, casting, finishing, patina, etc.) for the class. It was given as an achievement award chosen during the last critique by their peers at the last class.
